Self-promoting TV detective, obsessed with celebrity sex abusers, helped police ruin lives
Celebrities such as Sir Cliff Richard (top left), Jim Davidson (top right), Freddie Starr (bottom left) and Lord Brittan (bottom right) were all accused of abuse but were never convicted or even charged with an offence. TV 'detective' called Mark Williams-Thomas (centre) publicised the names of high profile suspects. He publicly revealed the names of up to 20 suspects' names submitted to Operation Yewtree after the Jimmy Savile scandal. Former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Settle said the release of these names at such an early stage of the police 'tainted the whole investigation', created the presumption of guilt and 'ruined innocent lives'.
