Greek government sources say two heavily armed British suspects have been arrested near the border with Turkey.

A high-ranking security official, speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the suspects were Iraqi-born British subjects in their 20s.

The two were arrested on Saturday night by coastguards near the port of Alexandroupolis in the north-east. They were driving a trailer. A spokesman for the coastguard confirmed the arrests.

The suspects were carrying more than a dozen guns and well over 20,000 bullets, according to the security official. The two were not thought to be on any terrorist or criminal database
