Segundo João Paulo Costa, como Portugal ratificou a convenção de 2001 da Unesco, os achados pertencem ao país onde foram encontrados, mas podem ser estudados por investigadores portugueses. De acordo com a BBC, este é apenas o 108.º astrolábio a ser confirmado e catalogado.
