The shootings happened just days after the body of Pamela Mastropietro, an 18-year-old Italian woman, was discovered cut up and hidden in two suitcases.
A preliminary postmortem on the teenager could not immediately identify her cause of death.
A Nigerian migrant has been arrested in connection with the death.
The suspect, who was denied asylum last year but has remained in Italy, has refused to talk to police.
The death has enraged far-right activists who blamed the Italian government for the teenager's death.
