Residents in Cotswolds village have DNA from 18 places
Residents of Bledington, Gloucestershire, were shocked to find they had DNA from 18 different places in the world, after testing was done by AncestryDNA on 120 of the villagers. The study is the first of its kind to analyse the make-up of a whole village and the samples found that people on average had less than 50 per cent of their DNA from Great Britain. Others even found out they were related to each other, as third or fourth cousins. Circled, Ann Newton, who found out she was only 37 per cent British and 35 per cent of her genetic make-up was from Europe West. Next to her, husband Mick who found he is Irish and Scandinavian as well as British. Pictured main, Bledington was chosen because of its size and community spirit and 120 people took part in the study, the first of its kind. Right, villagers in the idyllic location, shown inset right, found out they on average only had around 43 per cent British DNA, with much of their genetic make-up coming from as far away as south Asia and north Africa. She spoke of how she would be picked up in a Mercedes from the children's home where she was living and taken to flats in Newcastle to be used by anyone who wanted her. John Elvedge QC, prosecuting, told the court how during one attack she was high on cocaine while men took turns to have sex with her under a Kurdish flag. The shocking case emerged in yet another appalling grooming scandal, as a total of 17 men and one woman were convicted of rape, sexual assault, human trafficking and inciting prostitution.
