Horror in Mexico as drug cartel gunmen execute three American Mormon mothers and at least six of their children on their way to a wedding before their bodies are left in burned, bullet-ridden SUVs
At least nine U.S. citizens, including six children, who live in the Mexican border state of Sonora have been killed in a shooting attack, relatives said last night. One relative said the burned-out, bullet-ridden SUV (top right) containing the remains of his nephew's wife Rhonita Maria LeBaron and four of her children were found. A convoy of three vehicles had set out Monday heading to a wedding. Seventeen family members were in the caravan leaving from La Mora- a decades-old settlement founded as part of an offshoot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - but were attacked by cartel gunmen in what may have been a case of mistaken identity. Many of the church's members were born in Mexico and thus have dual citizenship. Rhonita Maria LeBaron died along with her twin 6-month-old babies and two other children aged 10 and 12 (main image, the family together and bottom right, the twins). The bodies of Christina Langford (inset), Dawna Langford and two of Dawna's children were recovered later in the day.
