Pelo menos 17 associações ou grupos exigem à Assembleia da República que a nacionalidade portuguesa seja atribuída a todos o que nascem em Portugal, independentemente da origem dos pais, e que os mecanismos de acesso à mesma sejam mais justos para os imigrantes. As associações e grupos subscritores da campanha Por outra lei da nacionalidade, que será apresentada publicamente nesta sexta-feira, na Casa do Brasil, representam milhares de pessoas: assinam a Solidariedade Imigrante, com quase 30 mil associados, a Consciência Negra, Afrolis, Olho Vivo, Casa do Brasil de Lisboa, o SOS Racismo ou o Grupo de Teatro do Oprimido de Lisboa (que já tinha lançado uma petição semelhante num dos seus espectáculos sobre o tema — na foto).
“Os portugueses não têm uma só cor, nem uma só origem. A identidade portuguesa incorpora marcas culturais trazidas por imigrantes vindos dos cinco continentes”, escrevem. “Esta diversidade não pode continuar a ser ignorada e invisibilizada, tampouco pode ser aproveitada de forma oportunista”, continuam.

Os subscritores querem acabar com a prova de conhecimento de português ou o pagamento de taxas (actualmente o processo de pedido de nacionalidade pode ir de 175 a 250 euros). O objectivo é angariar subscritores através da assinatura de uma petição pública.

The elite made Brexit happen because they ignored ordinary people's fear about immigration, former Bank of England Governor Mervyn King has claimed.
The leading economist said voters were made to feel like 'deplorables' by establishment forces backing the EU, Lord King said.
The ex-governor, who quit Threadneedle Street in 2013, has endorsed Brexit for offering 'real opportunities' for the UK economy.
His replacement Mark Carney has come under severe criticism for warning about the risks of Brexit and has faced claims he is talking down the economy.

Lord King said there was a message for politicians in the different voting patterns between the north and south of England.
'That gap between London and the rest of the country was something that I, living outside, noticed but all my friends in London didn't really appreciate,' Lord King said at the London School of Economics last night.
'I [was] told: but if you even contemplate voting for Brexit, you must be either ignorant, uneducated, stupid or racist.
'It was the British equivalent of the deplorables. And I think the reaction against it did play some role [in the Brexit vote].'
Lord King said the Brexit vote and the election of Mr Trump as US president 'raised questions' over whether 'the [political] parties we have at present – in the US or the UK – actually have lost touch'.

He added: 'Why they were created in the first place no longer seems relevant, and it's more difficult to see what each party stands for, hence the rise of people who could represent one party or another but see themselves as the individual who can save the country.'

'And in the end it may well have been inevitable either that there was a referendum or that one of the parties would have had to represent in a very clear way their position on the EU and give people a chance to vote on it.'

Four members of a child sex grooming gang from Rochdale - Shabir Ahmed (top left), Adil Khan (top right), Abdul Rauf (bottom right) and Abdul Aziz (bottom left) - are facing deportation to Pakistan after immigration judges rejected their appeals against a move to strip them of their British citizenship.
