Islam is a threat, says adviser to Pope

BERLIN Attempts to “Islamise” Europe are threatening the Christian character of the continent, the Pope’s closest adviser has cautioned. Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, private secretary to Benedict XVI, told Süeddeutsche Magazin: “Attempts to Islamise the West cannot be denied. The danger for the identity of Europe that is connected with it should not be ignored out of a wrongly understood respectfulness.” Mgr Gaenswein also defended a speech that the Pope gave last year linking Islam and violence, saying that the pontiff was attempting to “act against a certain naivety”.
